MFA Thesis Show
“Aggregate Bodies” is an MFA Thesis Exhibition by Kendall Traylor, presenting large-scale sculptural installations formed from reclaimed ceramic waste. Clay operates as both medium and archive, creating terrazzo-speckled bodies from discarded ceramic, paper, drywall, and other community refuse. Embedded fragments remain visible within the surfaces, holding traces of their past lives and revealing layered material histories.
The work emerges through cycles of breaking down, drying, pulverizing, and reforming waste into new clay bodies. Each mixture produces a unique composition, allowing fragments to persist within the surface like scars. Sculptures develop through intuitive movement as clay is layered and folded across growing volumes, leaving seams and raw textures as records of the process. A wall display of collected fragments functions as an open archive, revealing cycles of accumulation, memory, and transformation.
By reclaiming materials and claiming space, the work affirms value in what has been overlooked or discarded, linking sustainability to memory, labor, and embodiment.
